martinsh: I'll say, correct: I was reckoning things the simplest way, very literally just "wheel arrangements" -- making no allowances for different tank-loco varieties; and excluding the Listowel and Ballybunion as a "no-gauge" oddity. My total of w/a's was thus 20 -- but we're on the same page, although via different routes.

I have the disadvantage of being able only roughly to estimate distances for the Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway -- which may scupper me one way or the other. However: I'll take a shot at, Carndonagh to Killybegs: L & LSR Carndonagh -- Tooban Jun. -- Letterkenny; then County Donegal Joint Railways Letterkenny -- Strabane -- Stranorlar -- Donegal Town -- Killybegs; total journey length approx. 115 miles.

OK -- I'll say Burtonport -- Killybegs (which I thought of, but my "guesstimate" had my first suggestion, as a bit longer): Burtonport -- Letterkenny, and then as before -- and, 125 miles. If that's wrong: I'll need to bow out in favour of someone who has access to more accurate L&LSR distances, than I know how to get.
