LNWR engines Watt [No.229] and Lady of the Lake [No.531] were both fitted with scoops to allow water to be picked up without stopping.
In 1862, Watt completed the journey from Holyhead to Stafford in record time, collecting water at the newly-installed Mochdre troughs.
However, at the International Exhibition later that year, it was Lady of the Lake which was exhibited, and won the bronze medal, rather than Watt.
