It might not be connected, but on that date, Peter Sutcliffe aka The Yorkshire Ripper committed a murder in Leeds, so I'll guess that he was travelling to/from Leeds on a train hauled by 40179?

It ran out of fuel in the middle of nowhere and at that time they'd be no trackside telephones, so it took ages to source a replacement loco.

Apparently whilst working a mixed freight 40179 suffered a complete failure, the nearest available loco to assist happened to be Jubilee 5690 Leander (Presumably working a charter) which backed on to the front of the stricken 40 then proceeded to haul the the dead type 4 plus train to at least Garsdale,

I'll declare Open Floor.

Assuming it is still open floor...

Which station did passengers have to commit the act of trespassing?

I'm suspecting it's a station in the middle of private land. Might Campbell's Platform, on the Ffestiniog have qualified as such? (I doubt this is the one you had in mind, though.)

Norton (no) Bridge.
Stanlow & Thornton.
Redcar British Steel.

The latter two assume you aren't an employee of the refinery or Tata British Steel of course.
Open floor if correct.

Sorry for late replies - Had to deal with a small house fire...

Lympstone Commando... I did not think about that one, however it is not the correct answer in this case

Would you like a clue?
