The reason why I was uncertain at first was that whilst I made note of the arcane spelling of the first word in the title in an earlier posting on this thread, the third word shown in the title was another one that also did not ring true when I read it.

I have the name as the Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway in my archive records, which was formerly known as the Carmarthenshire Tramroad. This is said to be the oldest public railway in Britain, being established in 1802 in Wales by an Act of Parliament and trains commenced running in 1803. The original line was a plateway and a pair of horses were the traction used.

There are claims that the Surrey Iron Company was the first to have a railway line actually Incorporated, but the Llanelli and Mynydd Mawr Railway (under its original title of the Carmarthenshire Tramroad) was the first in reality to be open for traffic.

They've converted the former signalbox into a very comfortable sitting-room for retreats, quiet afternoons, etc, and I can well recommend the place.

I didn't know of the Signalbox Inn at Cleethorpes, but as I'm not against sitting and contemplating with a glass of something in my hand myself, I'm going to award it to you.

How about the famed 1S19, the Bristol to Edinburgh / Glasgow overnight, which was a heavy train throughout. It was banked up the Lickey, but was otherwise a single 47 to New St for a leccy forward.

Good guess as it's dead right.

The refreshment vehicles and mail vans made it very heavy, I suppose being on that route it was generally flatish so not like other routes.

As the Night Ferry use to run through my home town of Tonbridge I was interested in the answer. With 19 vehicles at Victoria (Eastern) that would stretched from the buffer stops to way beyond the starting signal and well onto the gradient of 1 in 62 of Grosvenor Bank.
Dover Marine could not accomodate 19 vehicles but the train would have been split somewhere to get them on to the ship.
In its last few years of operation the formation was much reduced.
