The list on Wikipedia ('Water Trough') gives the locations, lengths and mileages of all the water troughs on the East Coast, West Coast, Midland and Great Western main lines which were in use in 1936....which year was probably the zenith of their development. References can also be found by Googling 'water troughs' for installations on other lnes, such as the Great Central and Lancashire & Yorkshire (Luddenden Foot-Sowerby Bridge).

I've found this so thanks for that too. My source is the Ian Allan Pre Grouping Atlas and Gazetteer, which shows in the maps most but not all of those listed on Wikipedia, but does not give a list.
And I was annoyed at forgetting Tivetshall.

No, though they would be interesting dates to know. Possibly be quite close to these too, but that would be a red herring!

You are getting very close, though not all of them are disused.
And which lines on which dates?
Time for another hint. The quoted routes rarely saw the Royal Train. The dates relate to routes (and stations) that had lots of Royal Trains up to these dates.
I'm slightly surprised that you haven't recognised one of the dates, well known in NBL type 2 history.
One Bangor to Caernarfon in 1969
That was 01/07/69 for the investiture of the Prince of Wales. We will be having another one of those quite soon, but the Royal Family don't go to Caernarfon very often.

Ah yes....Aberdeen-Ballater (1966), Kings Lynn-Hunstanton (1968....Wolferton station for Sandringham), but which one was in 1965?

19/10/65 was the last Royal Train out of Ballater, closest station to Balmoral, and hauled by D6142 and D6145. As you say, the Aberdeen-Ballater line closed in 1966.
27/01/66 was the last Royal Train out of Wolferton, closest station to Sandringham. The locos are not identified but train was booked a single Brush Type 2 to Kings Lynn and a pair from Kings Lynn to Liverpool Street. The Hunstanton branch closed in 1969 but was effectively out of bounds for loco hauled trains by Christmas 1966.
10/05/68 is another station, with big associations with Royalty going back to Queen Victoria, receiving its last Royal Train, this time an arrival not a departure. The line and station are still open, but something happened in 1968 so that it could no longer receive the Royal Train.
