The Croydon Tramlink line about 100 yards north of Mitcham Tram Stop has an unusual track layout which I will ask you to describe or name the type of track layout. ?
There are a couple of examples elsewhere in the country which readers can name

Incorrect in regard to the question I posed.
The track layout in question does not appear anywhere else in the South East.

Which I've never seen the point of, being as it has only the capacity of single track.

It's a short single-track section between two double-track sections.
I was thinking of the tunnels on the Hastings line, but that's in the South-East :-?

Several of the tunnels on the Hastings line do not have interlaced track but conventional single lines.
Occasionally the points on the single lines fail causing severe disruption..!

We are used to Community Rail Partnerships running Jazz evenings on trains, but where was the original "Jazz" service, and why was it so nicknamed?

It is my understanding the first "Jazz" service was the high frequency suburban services from Liverpool Street that ran to places such as Chingford, Enfield, Hertford East, etc. It started in the 1920s when Jazz was the latest "in thing" .

You're right - it was the name given to the intensive services out of Liverpool St to the eastern suburbs - operated by steam, as an alternative to electrification.
