Hi , can anyone give me any background as to who these were given and why . I have a bronze one belonging to my grandfather and would love to know more about it and how people were selected and how many they were etc etc. Many thanks

Here's someone who asked the same question elsewhere on the internet: https://www.national-preservation.com/threads/george-stephenson-railway-centenary-medals-1825-1925.138056/

While they didn't get an answer, they started off with more information, which may be of use.
