Lexie (the hamster) is well maintained. However, she is usually undergoing maintenance during the day. She can only operate the service from 21:00 to 07:00.

A sleeper service then?

A cock up at admin level has meant the existing mods are now going to carry on for another six months until a new auction process can be set up.

I believe that a few moderators over bid, causing worries that they will become bankrupt before their franchise ends. As a result, the bidding process has been canceled until further notice and all current moderators keep their franchise.

That's correct. Lexie is nocturnal, so can only provide power (should we call it EFS- Electric Forum Supply?) at night.:D

And this is why the forum is in dire need of re-nationalisation. Plus it would help stop the fare rises, I'm priced out of some threads. I blame the greedy forum staff for making a profit from a public service.

You should try an AFR (All Forum Rover). It's not cheap, but it's a good way of reading as many threads as you want. It's valid for all threads (except the UK Railway Discussion and Traction & Rolling Stock forums before 10:00, and can't be used to view the Trip Reports & Nostalgia forum), and is valid for either one or two weeks. You can also get a First Class AFR, giving you access to complementary attachments (between 7am and 9pm only).

The forum can in fact be accessed for a bargain price, as long as you know which threads you want to read in 12 weeks time, and you read the whole thread from start to finish (finishing short is not allowed).

Anyone that reads the thread on a standard forum ticket, then leaves it for 12 months, and starts from the first unread post will be liable to a fine for starting short. This is covered in section C in the RUKCoF (Rail UK Conditions of Forum) :D

Is my split between General Discussion and Other Transport and Other Transport and Fare Advice valid when using a bookmark via Allocations and Timetables?

Safeguarded (former) forum staff are exempt from all charges and restrictions however :D

Talking of former staff members, I'm still unhappy that TomB was allowed to hand the keys in early... I hope that measure will be in place to stop this happening again?

Fear not, the Forum Moderators Union has ensured that both current and former staff will have their full range of benefits protected going forward. Including the final post count pension scheme which is one of few final post count schemes still accepting new members.

Steps have been taken to ensure that such a thing cannot occur. Moving forward all Moderator Franchises will be for the fixed length of the life of the moderator in question. Early termination of a Moderator Franchise will lead to a cross default of all posts and threads so far made. There is nothing inherently wrong with franchises and the growth and improvements they have delivered prove that they are the correct choice going forward.

I'm also pleased to announce that the rat upgrade has been total successful. Anyone claiming that the rat is less reliable and more expensive than the hamster is clearly viewing the world through rose tinted glasses. This is a modern forum and rats are the future, hamsters are the technology of the past.

You mean you have given Lexie the sack?

She's sprobably been sidelined, ready to step in when the rat encounters teething problems (which it will, this is the UK)

I would encourage members to contribute to the Lexie Preservation Society who are hoping to raise the funds to purchase her, before she is sold. Rumors are a well known supermarket is interested.....

Lexie will be kept under forum control and be put in the staff forums out of view for 20 years, thus adding to her sale value.

(On a serious note, the tiling issue on the forum background pointed out before this sillyness started has been fixed :P )

I'm offended by that 'sillyness' remark. I guess that's typical of the forum staff rounding on defenceless forum members, which you probably think of as morons.

I am therefore going to write to the Daily Mail right now.

I am pleased that you have resolved that specific problem. However, your other comment regarding "sillyness" does bear tribute to the creativity of thought and a rail-reflected excellent sense of humour that is a trademark of the vast majority of our forum membership.

It does indeed - long may it continue :D

As an additional celebration, we have released a new offer in the Sun in partnership with RedSpottedLogo'edForums - 10 reads of the forum for absolutely FREE! :D

Unfortunately, Lexie was only built to last two years, and refurbishing and re-engining her will be too expensive.

I wouldn't if I were you as Mike395 is a Forum Revenue Protection Inspector and knows all of the forumn bylaws inside out. It wouldn't work in your favour next time you visited the fourms. :D

How did the sillyness even start? It somehow turned from a serious question about a forum update to this!

We are also creating a new emergency Forum Bylaw without DfF (Department for Forums) approval due to a significant minority not knowing how to use Quote tags correctly, which constitutes a loss in revenue due to moderator time spent fixing this. Anyone who does so incorrectly will now be subject to arrest by the BFP (British Forum Police) :P

I'm sorry Mike. I'm always having problems with quotes! I was seconds off sending you a PM asking for help, but I solved the problem as I realised that I had missed of the /!

Perhaps a very large forum member will be willing to assist even if BFP will arrest him afterwards?
