The website railuk.info (nothing to do with here I think) was one of a limited number of sites which had competent detail on older locomotives. I've had a look around but it seems to have disappeared. Any ideas what has happened to it?

Seem to recall some time back it was taken down for a refresh/major update, but then it sort of stalled. Have also been told the 'class47.co.uk' is effectively dead. Issues on the IT side in part. Edit: this is why I prefer books for many of my interests. Web pages are good and quick to look up etc, but when the owner ceases to keep the site going for whatever reason, so much 'at hand' information just gets lost.

I've used that website myself but it's not much cop. Some loco entries have information which is 35 years out of date. Not very useful.

One of my friends is very much into comics and there are huge swathes of exclusive interviews and articles from the 2000s lost to time as websites close and domains expire.

These two websites were sort-of complementary, but as both seemed missing elements, what was not on one was sometimes on the other.

For example, works numbers of locomotives were shown, incomplete, on both, but where such detail is maybe not on the first you look at it is on the opposite one.

This is not to take anything away from the considerable personal effort that must go into preparing such useful websites, which I think a number here will be grateful for.

This. It takes very little time and effort to save a web page via the Internet Archive's 'Wayback Machine'. Likewise I try to check and see if a useful / interesting / notable page has already been saved - and if not then save it myself - if I think it worth preserving for posterity.
