Hi

I have had the iPhone app for this forum for ages. I have restored iPhone and now I can't download the app again. Where has it gone? Help!

Thanks

Luke

There is an annual fee to have any Apps available for download from the iTunes store, and also an annual fee to download updates from vBulletin. Given the App has not been updated it was not seen worthwhile to use our limited budget to have the App re-made, only for us to have issues when the forum software is updated and have to do it all over again.

The Google Play store only has a one-off fee, so the Android App is still available for download.

Thanks for the quick reply.

That's really unfortunate as I find the website quite hard to read and navigate in safari on my iPhone as it presents it in desktop format. Is there a mobile version of the forum or do I just have to suck it up ;). Thanks

There is the mobile skin for the forums. I don't use iPhone so I couldn't tell you if you can force mobile mode but perhaps you can restore the app from a backup?

In addition to the Mobile version linked above, we also have a "Lightweight" version which you might find is a good option.

The different versions are available via User CP, Edit Options, then scroll down to Forum Skin and select from the drop down.

I for one think this is a mistake. Maybe you should have a poll to see how many users want the iPhone app

This is a non profit board, the adverts pay for the hosting cost with the surplus going to charity. I think donating to charity would be a better option then paying Apple's £100 fee just so certain smartphone users don't have to use a web browser.

BTW the board works fine for navigation in Chome (don't have a Jesus phone so can't comment on Safari)

I still have the App but to be honest never used it that much as I find it easier to access the site through the browser (and I load the full site too). In the meantime the cost for re-launching the App on iPhone would be £60 to Apple and £125 to vBulletin. In the meantine we ask for your patience and either restore the App from your backup or use the forum via the browser.

The App may be returning in the new year.

Silly question, but having set my user preference to the mobile skin, how do I change it back? Other than by the link in this tread, of course. The option to set the skin doesn't seem to be in the user cp when using that skin, which would seem to be an oversight.
