Saw two very odd looking sets going northbound through Beaconsfield yesterday both within 20 mins of each other. Just caught a glimpse of a DRS loco of one of the sets but was not sure which class. The other was a long rake of old Virgin livered coaches. Could anyone kindly shed some light ?

TIA.

There seems to be a bit of confusion here over the specials to Wembley - there were two matches taking place over the weekend one on Saturday between Barrow and Stevenage and one today between Whitley Bay and Wroxham.

There were two specials on Saturday for the Barrow fans, one operated by DRS, hauled by 47501 and 47712 TnT - this ran via the Chiltern line to Wembley Stadium. Picture here:

The other train was operated by DBS and should have been topped & tailed by 67s - in the event it had only one 67 (67006). This train ran via Oxford and the GWML to Acton, then "round the houses" to arrive at Wembley Stadium from the south. It was originally planned to run the ECS of this train to Princes Risborough to reverse it on the remains of the Thame branch. As it only had one loco, this plan was changed and the ECS ran to South Ruislip where the loco ran round. It was due to stable at Willesden ET until after the match, but this may well have changed as well due to having only one loco, which obviously had to run round again somewhere, before departure northwards.

Both these trains were then due to depart north from Wembley after the match, via the Chiltern line.

Today's special for the Whitley Bay fans ran from Newcastle to King's Cross with 90026 on the south end of eight Mk.III coaches from the DB Regio hire fleet, with Chiltern DVT 82302 on the rear, acting as a brake vehicle only. This will be hauled back later with loco plus DVT on the front, I assume. This set of stock is due to work back ECS to Willesden overnight tonight/Monday morning.

Couple of photos of this working on my site, starting here:

Hope that helps,

Cheers, Geoff
