As I understand it, for timetabled trains, CDL is required. Hence, WCRC always use CDL fitted Mk. 2 stock on trains like the Nottingham-Skegness, rather than vehicles with secondary locks (bolts). Mk. 1/non CDL passenger stock is subject to derogation and their use restricted.

I don't think 1001 needed CDL for railtour use though, only normal passenger service. I'm pretty sure I got told that by someone who works on 1001 down at St Leonards Depot.

Track access and path charges are big costs as well for companies wanting to start around London. But a lot of them start close by and can be connected into such as the recent East Mids farewell from Leicester and the recent Flamboyant Trains tour which started at Peterborough.

These destinations would be nice to serve more:
Newhaven Marine
Seaford (last official railtour was in 1991 with the 4SUB and 2BIL)
Routes like the Hastings - Ashford line.....we need railtours....with 33s of course!

Any hertiage loco over the Marshlink on a railtour would be welcomed I'm sure. Wouldn't mind a pair of 20s over there, especially on the section between Appledore and Hastings which hasn't seen a 20 since the days of when Hunslet & Barcley had the 20/9s operating on weedkilling trains.
Of course being a big fan of 33s, that would be a lot nicer to see, 33s aren't Common on the mainline down South anymore anyway.
I'm sure we did that stretch on the 'Atomic Habour Master' (probably my worst 37 tour last year) with 37601 & 37603, we were about two hours late leaving Ashford and rather than direct to the capital did that route, and it was all in the dark :roll:

Yes that tour did do the Hastings - Ashford Marshlink line.
Thought it did, only ever did it once in the daylight, did a Thumper (205025 rings a bell) over the full route (Hastings to Ashford Direction) then back so far for another one (207 summat used to be named Brighton Pavillion or something, whichever that one was) back to Ashford and then into the capital on a EMU.

Didn't realise Worcester, which is the last pickup without suffering some bus on the return, was in the south these days ??

I didn't realise going down from Worcester to Weymouth isn't going south ?
This thread is about tours from the south which people from down there can travel on, which isn't this one as they have trek to get to the first PU point, it may go to the South which is all very well for those who want to stand in fields with their cameras that way on but for people like me who couldn't think of anything more boring to do and want 'haulage' then its not very good is it. Then again if you were really into your haulage you would travel to the start even if the is a PU Point at the station down the road 8)

Can't you do half fares and get on at Weymouth etc ?
...And go where? If you go north on it you still have to come back on a service train.
When did I say it wasn't, all i said was it didn't serve the sourthern people who wanted 'haulage' due to where it's PU Points are :roll:

Hardly a railtour available to those living south of Worcester without car/hotel etc is it.
Of course, 37412, those who just want to field veg don't give a toss about people actually on the train, they'd rather they ran emcars so you didn't get any of those peasant bashers getting in the way.
