Railtour Fails

I thought I'd have a bit of fun here.

Today, I went to see 70000 and 47828 pass Exeter St David's at 1817. It was all going well until 221122 blocked my view of it on the late running 1810 service to Paignton. Also, at the same time, my storage ran out because I forgot to check it before I went out.

Does anyone else have an experience like this that you would like to share?

There is a YouTube video somewhere of something similar happening and blocking the view of the Flying Scotsman.
And to be fair, the running of the normal passenger service is much more important than what fanatics want.

Went to see Clun Castle at Barnt Green November last year. The whole town turned up to see it, meaning trains had to pass the crowded platforms at reduced speed. Anyway, Clun Castle charges up the Lickey, just as a WMR 170 bound for Bromsgrove completely blocked the view!

Just thought of another one! In December, I went up to London to go to a Tottenham Hotspur stadium tour. On the day before the tour (11/12), I decided to visit Clapham Junction for the first time. I was stood, in awe, staring at the depot area in the middle of the station when I heard a whistle. I turned around and saw a plume of smoke behind 444024 and 455704. It wasn't as painful because I didn't know it was coming but it would've been good to see the Clan Line (a locomotive that I hadn't seen for years) on my first visit to the busiest station (in terms of trains) in Britain

I guess it goes to show how lucky we are to have a railway system that is so important that there will be a train coming the other way !

No comfort for those who've missed the shot though !

It's happened to me once, but I was trying to photograph Porterbrook's Hydroflex unit being hauled through Selly Oak. A class 323 got in the way!

In the days of proper photography (!), on more than one occasion I have pressed the shutter release and nothing has happened because I had forgotten to wind on the film.

This always happened with a moving subject where there was no second chance.

I was once about to photograph a VEP at Clapham Junction, only for a Deltic to get in the way!

Not a railtour, but a long trip. I was in Germany taking photos for an article and had one last type to photograph, without which the article would be a bit unbalanced. I chose a useful junction where it would come in, terminate, turn round and leave again: plenty of time to take a selection of shots. Here it comes! It doesn’t seem to moving very fast. It’s not moving at all. It’s still not moving. It had failed in an inaccessible spot about half a kilometre away.

Another fail today. Checked my storage. It was on 89%. Took a video of the train. Phone decided to stop recording and deleted the video.

So why did they all stand on that platform, instead of going to the side where they knew the train would be?
Or even to a better place, away from a station?
