Railtour 2012 wishlist

I'd like to see 2x20s and MK1's/2's in BR Blue from Derby to Skegness, not necessarily as a railtour, maybe even a few weekends in a row? Summer obviously

What I'd like (rather as suggested in the above post) would be not a railtour, but some regular workings, on Summer Saturdays perhaps, to some popular seaside resorts or perhaps on the S&C or West Highland, (or South Devon), using classic diesel traction on Mk1 or Mk 2 stock. Rather like is done already with steam, only using all sorts of diesels from class 20s to 56s.

My wish is that tours run as advertised and they don't keep getting redated/cancelled. I'm sure most if not all the tour promoters share my wish!

Or that organisers don't advertise locos which are still in bits in the works at the time the tour is scheduled to run. Why don't they at least restrict themselves to locos which are actually in one piece and running before advertising them?
(Obviously, it'd still be dependent on availability on the day, but you always have to allow for that).

With so many non-DRS mainline registered Class 20s around, I would love to have a BR Blue/Railfreight pair via Peak Forest to Buxton & maybe Derby to Llandudno & Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Also, either a Spitfire Routes & Branches or a Pathfinder Buffer Puffer with top n tail Class 20s to North London/Essex branchlines.

As a steam age relic, my preferences would be for "different" steam power on the summer Liverpool - Carlisle tours, for example a Merchant Navy and a rebuilt BB/WC class.
For me, most diesel tours have become more like endurance tests than an enjoyable day out. I do not want to get up at 04:00, face a long drive to somewhere like Crewe (or beyond), and then finish the day with a long drive home sometime around midnight. I also got tired of sharing trains with a minority who consumed too much alcohol and then shouted abusive comments at people waiting at stations we passed through. I also consider it pointless to "do" rare track when it is dark - I want to see where we are going.

I did the Ness Monster in summer 2010, and it was a brilliant day. Linford Street Viaduct, Sheerness, Dungeness, part of Dudding Hill, Kew East.

I'd like to see a tour down the Sizewell branch again!

Been a few years since I've done the Sheerness branch as well !

I'd love to see tours at Sheerness - the last one was The Ness Monster last year - surely a 508 tour or summat can be re-arranged?

Saying that, Tornado is in town on a ECS/positioning move tomorrow. :P

There was to be a 508 farewell do, a number of people expressed interest including myself. Sadly, the ticket price was going to be way above what people were willing to pay, and it never happened. Must have been a fair few years getting since that was to happen, not been a 508 running with SET for quite a while now.

It's 5 years in December since the 508/2s were withdrawn and replaced by 466s.

I do remember the talk about the 508 tour but always thought the cancellation was due to pathing issues.

Anyway, back on topic - I'd like a branches railtour, going to some rare branches and junctions/track. Not too fussed on haulage, summat thrashy lol.

I would like to see the Branch Line Society (leaders in the class as this is their specialist area - they go regularly beyond the NR limit and local charities benefit greatly as a result); Spitfire Railtours (with their R'n'B tours - done all four and excellent they are too); UK Railtours (with their Forgotten Tracks tours) and Pathfinder Tours (with their Buffer Puffer and tours such as the Abercot Generator) co-ordinate their efforts to avoid clashes of dates. I know that this is something that the Branch Line Society are keen on doing and rightfully so. Travellers only have so much disposable income so avoiding clashes should enable tours to run full each and every time - and everyone benefits from that situation. On the 1st October 2011 Pathfinder Tours were planning to run a tour -as a special one off -to the Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen Branch and UK Railtours to the Seal Sands Branch (believed to be the first passenger train there). In the event the Pathfinder Tours tour was cancelled and it is now planned to be run on 24th March 2012. Owing to the late cancellation of the Pathfinder train the people who then wanted to go to the Seal Sands Branch were disappointed to learn that that tour was fully booked. It seems that Pathfinder may be looking to run to the Seal Sands Branch themselves in the not too distant future but that does not negate the argument. Why couldn't one plan to run on the 1st October and the other on the 8th October? All it would take is a telephone call amongst them all to claim/allocate dates for however long into the future they wish.

When 40145 returns to traffic I would like her on a North West Routes & Branches tour with assistance from a Class 50. I would like her to visit Blackpool North, Southport, Barrow, Buxton, Morecambe & Liverpool Lime St. I would hope 40145 could be cleared for both Wigan Wallgate to Southport & Southport to Liverpool Lime Street via Edge Hill. I would also route it via Manchester Victoria, Ashton Moss & Stockport to Buxton.

Should be able to do it with reasonable timings too, none of your 04:20 type start times here.
