RailStaff Awards 2015

The railstaff awards were held this evening. I dont know all of the winners, as yet they havent been fully revealed, but i know of this one!


Tim Brawn, Duty Control Manager for Transpennine Express won the David Maidment award for charity. He has for the last 10 years been a significant part in raising money for, and a major organiser of the Railway Children 3 Peaks By Rail charter. He also helps organise and run a number of TPE sponsored Branch Line Society charters which are momey raisers for the railway children charity aswell. A lifelong and highly experienced railwayman Tim is well respected and very popular amongst the traincrew and management of TPE and this award is well deserved.

Well done Tim!

At Crewe station this afternoon, a special announcement was made for one of their staff leaving to go to the award ceremony tonight... Peter or Paul someone. I'll assume representing Virgin Trains.

Not over sure why an FOC driver gets recommended for working an 18 hour day in a "non emergency " situation , would of thought that was quite dangerous rather than being possibly awarded for it

100% percent agree with you. Unfortunately it just shows what kind of management are running the railways and what kind of staff are now on the railways, and no doubt managers will still be asking staff to 'help out' until there is an incident because of fatigue.

I've just read the nomination for this guy and it does make a mockery of the rules for travel to work time. When many new entrants will not be considered for a job if they live more than 45 minutes from a depot, in this incident it was over 3 hours before a 12 hour shift at work. Then after 15 hours driving to and at work he drove home for 3 hours. This could all have ended very differently if he had caused a pile up on the way home due to fatigue, which has been compared with drink driving in the decline of alertness and reaction levels.

I realise freight is a precarious business and they don't want to cancel trains, but this doesn't seem entirely safe. I'd hope it really is a rare occurrence.

Blimey, there's a name from the past. Anyone remember the class 309 farewell from Manchester to Clacton? Tim was at First NorthWestern then, and together with some First Great Eastern staff we managed to arrange the farewell to the 309s spiritual home.

Good to see his charitable work being recognised, congratulations.

I have to agree, fortunately common sense prevailed and Frank Hoffman (LUL) won. He had a medical emergency on board his tube train, called for emergency services, liased with ststion staff and the line controller while he gave the ill man CPR and saved his life. After which he got back into his cab, carried on driving and finished his shift!

I had the great pleasure of being nominated, was a great evening with loads of good people. Well at least the bits I remember, when TOCs pay for the drink you drink it.

Why thank you, had a few people offer me condolences for not winning it today, tried to explain how over the moon I was with just the nomination!
