Something I've seen on at least one other forum is the option to pay a few quid annual subscription fee and in return you get ad-free browsing plus a couple of other benefits like a larger attachment quota and pm inbox limit, etc. and the ego massage of a "contributing member" tag under your avatar. I suspect a number of members on here would be up for this idea (and it'd make me feel less guilty browsing the forum on tapatalk, which is ad-free by definition).

Last year, after making a £50 donation to the 'Railway Children' charity, we invited members to make a donation themselves if they so wished - details are at http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=30010 if anyone didn't do so but would now like to do so.

Could we Officially support them and use some of the ad space or some other space as such?

Donating money or paying a subscription to the forum in return for 'perks' brings with it a whole load of admin responsibilities and potential complications, setting up different levels of access, sorting out more banking, etc - it's not a road we have ever needed to consider going down.

I'm sure this was discussed before. Many on here will fondly (or otherwise) remember the old chat forum. I remember that the staff were at one discussing a premium package. For a small fee, you'd have had access to the chat forum, and some other perks like increased space to upload photos etc. I can't remember the details, but it wasn't popular at the time and as such the idea went down like a lead balloon.

I myself wouldn't be keen to be forced to pay money, however I'd be more than happy to voluntarily make charity donations. Perhaps an idea for next year would be to create a just-giving page for The Railway Children (or indeed any other charity), pop any profits on that, and invite members to add to your contribution should they wish to do so?

I think that it is amazing that a website such as yours, with all the different sub-forums involved, with the administration and moderation services to ensure that everything is run smoothly, is free of charge to the users. It is a credit to you that you can provide all the forum services that you do.
