Hi all,
At the beginning of Feb, my fiance was issued a ticket after being unable to present a valid 26–30 Railcard. Unfortunately, her Railcard had expired at the beginning of November, which she genuinely hadn’t realised. As soon as the issue was pointed out by the officer on the train, she immediately renewed it.
She has held a Railcard since 2023 and has always renewed it on time—this is the first occasion she has missed the renewal. Most of these journeys were in November, when she was commuting more frequently (3+ days per week for work). Her travel reduced significantly in December, January, and February.
We have now received a Notice of Intended Prosecution. The letter gives her the opportunity to explain what happened from her perspective. Any advice on how best to approach this, or what to include in the response, would be really appreciated as she's quite anxious about the situation.
Also most (if not all) of these journeys were made using paper tickets. Would Thameslink be able to access or track her previous journey history in this case?
Thanks in advance for your help.
