Railcard renewal - changing apps

Hi - I want to renew my Railcard (26-30) because it expires tomorrow. I paid for and stored my current Railcard with the Railcard app, but I want to take advantage of the 20% discount with Trainline. My question is can I just renew in the Trainline app or will I need to buy a complete new Railcard there? Thank you

AFAIK it’ll be a new application via the Trainline app.

This is probably a stupid question but are Trainline Railcards the same as a normal one? I can still use the TfW app the same, that's where I have bought tickets before and I think I remember that Trainline charges extra fees for tickets compared with National Rail? Also can you pay for the Railcard through PayPal with Trainline? And it doesn't actually make any difference whether it's a new application or a renewal does it, it's still £30 the same...

Yes and yes.

A Digital Railcard bought from the Trainline has to be displayed from within the Trainline app, but you can use it like any other Railcard with tickets bought from any retailer (including ticket offices and ticket machines).

Obviously the Trainline would prefer you bought everything through them, but there is zero requirement to do so.

Thank you - I've done it, and it all worked fine Even the discount applied, and I see on its journey planner it automatically splits tickets for when that's cheaper which is useful

Re split tickets - TrainSplit is an alternative retailer that in most cases finds the best ticket splits available (the forum's ticket site is an affiliate of TrainSplit).

TrainSplit does have a mobile app, though it's worth noting that this only provides a simplified interface - use the website in order to take advantage of all the advanced options.
