There is a Virgin trains service from Rhyl to Bangor at 7:16 in the morning. This may well have advance fair availability saving you some cash. Then if you buy a single back in the afternoon you may save a few pennies. Unfortunately the timings of the virgin services don't correspond to leaving Bangor in the evening. Nothing in between the 14:20something and the 20:20something departures.

The fares CD NFM 04 does not include any Advance fares between Rhyl and Bangor .

Thanks for the help and information guys. I decided that I will go for a weekly ticket instead but I only save £3 which I don't really think that it's much of a save. My mother only gives me £160 per month and I get £30 from EMA so I guess it's all good but thinking that the money I get from EMA would be wasted in a rail ticket plus an additional £7.80 from my pocket saddens me.

Get a monthly + a few days to make it last 5 weeks. That way you are lowering the cost to less than £8 per day, this is lower than you were ever paying before!

If you choose to pay more than that, well that's your choice but I think it's daft!

But on the flip side, some have benefitted. My fare to York before 9:30am has fallen from £16 to £12 as a result of the changes. It's swings and roundabouts!

But that's a fare that was, prior to Complication in September 2008, subject to a £8 minimum.

Seeing as you are getting EMA, then I assume you are 16- 19 - can't you apply for travel expenses from your local authority?
