I have a railcard with me, but the day I was travelling on train, I forgot the rail card that, i left my home in a hurry and since the operator came and asked for my railcard there wasn't any on me even though I had one made months ago but I just didn't bring it with me, i have been issued a ticket but I want to know 2 things , Ive made an appeal.
1. Will the appeal get accepted?
2. I have a 21 days time to pay the reduced fare will the appeal pause the 21 day period or will it keep on going on?

Can you please post a copy of what you were sent, with any identifying features (eg reference number) hidden.

There is a forgotten railcard policy, which allows you to submit details of your railcard, which I would expect you to have been told about.

If you are travelling with a Railcard discounted Ticket and are unable to present the Railcard when asked by the staff or authorised agents of a Train Company, you will be treated as having joined a train without a valid Ticket and Conditions 9.1 – 9.5 will apply.

However, if you were unable to present the Railcard because you had forgotten to carry it on that particular journey or were unable to display it on an electronic device, the Train Company concerned will refund any fare or Penalty Fare paid in accordance with Condition 10.

In order to claim such a refund, you will need to contact the customer service department of the Train Company that charged you the additional fare or Penalty Fare, providing the full details of your Railcard, together with the additional Tickets you havepurchased or any Penalty Fares notices. A maximum of one such claim will be consideredin any 12-month period.

Was this a Penalty Fare Notice? If you have appealed and included a copy of your railcard it should be accepted, but it may depend on what you wrote and how clear your appeal was - the appeals panel sometimes appear to have difficulty reaching the correct decision, even in simple cases.

Even if you pay the Penalty Fare, you should be able to reclaim the money, but I agree that common sense should lead to the appeal being accepted. Sometimes it takes the third appeal before common sense intervenes.
