Wait for the letter; we can then advise accordingly.

The relevant condition is:

4. You must present your Railcard and Photocard whenever you purchase a discounted ticket. You must carry your Railcard and Photocard with you and when asked by rail staff, you must show a valid ticket, valid Railcard, and valid Photocard otherwise the full fare will be payable as if no Railcard and/or no ticket were held.
(bold = my emphasis)

There really is no way to know what direction the train company will want to take this in, until your receive the letter; I don't think there is anything we can really add until that point.

Thank you for your reply - I think because even when my photocard was used in the original 12 months, I was never asked to produce any other proof and therefore just continued using as before. I presumed it either lasted your term of service or autorenewed straight from your payslip.
That's a dangerous and incorrect presumption but really there is nothing much that can be said until the letter arrives; other threads explain what could happen, but cannot be taken to indicate what will happen in your case.

Its four years since Ive retired now, but it used to be the case that RDG/ATOC passed any irregularity to the railcards issuing service ie Army/ Navy/ Raf etc and it was dealt with as a disciplinary matter.

I can't see the TOC wanting to prosecute a serving member of HM Forces. They will probably write to you and ask for your side of the story. Which train company stopped you?

There is an outside chance the company could just wash their hands and send the matter to the Army/whichever service you're in. In which case it may be worth going to your CO/Adjutant as a courtesy before any letter arrives on their desk.

Do not be concerned if you have to ask transport investigations a few times for the opportunity to settle out of court. It can seem that they ignore the first couple of letters somebody sends them and you have to write back asking for the same thing again.
