Railcam Allocations

This afternoon the live railcam diagram maps are showing some but not all GWR IEP unit numbers on some services. I have seen this several times recently,i just wondered why this happens could it just be an error on the system, it usually goes back quickly to showing no unit Nos at all.

Users can manually add them (based on observations).

But the allocations can show up on one train and not others at the same time more or less, I presume the EMU numbers do not show because people don’t do units that much although not much else comes by on GWR mainline at weekends.

Allocations for IETs working to the South West are frequently posted on one of the email gen groups. It would not be surprising if either that poster, or someone else, is entering it into Railcam as well.

I entered a couple myself today based on observations.

My slight disappointment with entering information into Railcam is that it only lasts for four weeks. To some extent that makes it feel that entering information is not as worthwhile as if it was a more enduring record.

Thanks for that , I wondered if the allocations were always there but were blocked from us for some reason ,will GWR allocations ever appear on the likes of Railcam & Real time trains.

I would be worried about putting my observations on railcam with my dodgy eye site, I might end up telling some one they had seen there last one and I got the number wrong.

It has been indicated on this forum that any further extension of operators on Realtimetrains is dependant on the operators coming forward to the site owner.

Railcam appears to be fed by the availability of information from TOPS - ie for freight operators - and observations. I may be wrong but they do not appear to have actual direct feeds from any operator or information from the systems passenger operators use.

Are some operators blocking us from seeing the allocations then. Is it down to corporate secrets or something.

I doubt it is a conspiracy - more that they have more important things to do

You have to wonder ,I believe a lot of the stuff we do get comes from freight master on the days they update tops lists you get the allocations on the maps.

Correct - I have a mutual working arrangement with Railcam which (amongst other things) allows
Railcam to use information from the daily TOPS lists posted on the Freightmaster Forum.
