The Llangollen Railway has announced that Waggon und Machinebau railbus 79962 owned by the Vintage Carraige Trust will complete its restoration on the line.

Llangollen Railway to launch sustainable shuttle to Horseshoe Falls

A new project will see a sustainable shuttle launched between Llangollen and Berwyn on the Llangollen Railway.

Railbus No. 79962 has arrived on loan from the Vintage Carriages Trust and will be restored to operational condition to run the service.

Seems like a good move as the existing Berwyn shuttles run between service trains have proved quite popular and cater for visitors who want a shorter trip.

Sister railbus 79960 visited for the 2016 DMU gala and I recall one of the highlights was an eastbound departure towards Ruabon. Its short length meant it could depart the up platform and go into the loco release spur under the bridge and then run non stop through the down platform!

I thought that the VCT had decided that it would never return to operational condition.

So I'm pleased to see that it will be.

Yes, certainly very good news - I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen 79962 running.
Slightly off topic but does it retain its original engine (or at least the engine designed for these railbuses)?
