Rail Travel Vouchers

I have got 2 Rail Travel Vouchers after SWT delayed me. At my local station, Branksome, the TVMs don't take them (I think). If I start to make a journey because the RTVs weren't accepted will I be penalty fared for not having a valid ticket or does the guard/RPI have to accept the RTVs?

If you are making a journey for which the fare is greater than the value of the vouchers you could always use the TVM to buy the cheapest single ticket which would cover part of the journey and then use the RTVs to 'excess up' to the ticket you require.

It'll really make their day.

Obviously you'd split the surplus payment between cash and card too.

And also, depending on the attitude/competence of the staff member, and the type of ticket you are trying to buy, the chance that you are told that you have to buy a new ticket (the one you actually wanted all along) and then wait several weeks/fill out paperwork to get a refund of the original ticket.

......which would come in the form of RTVs thus starting the cycle again. It actually sounds more appealing to me now just to be a pain.

Because most ticket issuing systems and offices and TOCS do not have a system whereby they can accept a ticket issued by another TIS, System or TOC as part payment towards one they issue. I did it once and got told off as my shift would now be £x short as the ticket I had accepted as part payment was useless and worthless to us.

This is probably why the NRCoT was changed to remove this provision.
