Rail strikes and refund / compensation

If one was to buy a season ticket from Southern and due to the strikes it was impossible to get to work, how would you get a refund? how is this calculated.

Also if you were to buy a season ticket from southern and the ticket was for journeys used on SWT would you be entitled to compensation seeing as Southern get most of the money?
