Rail Staff Travel abroad?

Has any rail staff members used their privilege passes abroad? I've never tried before but my wife and I fancy London - Paris(overnight stay) - Lyon(overnight stay) - Perpignan(day visit) - Barcelona(overnight stay). Just one way as we'll be flying back after a few days at a coastal resort.

Any information would be great. Euro-Star discount? Websites. Hotels. Administration. Atoc.

Your TOC card does not work abroad.

After 12 months service, you should apply for a FIP card. (Free)

Ask your colleagues or access the RST/ATOC website for both the relevant forms and where to send them to.

It offers you either 50% off in most countries, or 75% off in France/Belgium/NI/Eire.

Once issued, you also can then request Coupons for eight days travel for almost all EU countries. You can ask for coupons for each country once a year.

Eurostar is around £26 standard or £39 first one way.

After 23 years service I'd like to get some benefit from my PT card. I guess I'll try and call ATOC after the holidays.

The whole FIP concept is quite well understood over there - so even buying tickets in general is no issue.

We have been to a small town north of Turin in Italy twice - once via Eurostar, Paris, overnight in Basel (lovely place) and then to Milan and to Turin next day. We came back direct from Turin to Paris and the Eurostar. The next time we went Eurostar, Paris, and several trains (of decreasing gauge) to Chamonix, bus over/through Mont Blanc and then local Italian train to our destination. Back direct from Turin to Paris.
We went through the DB booking place in Surbiton, told them what we wanted, what free passes we would order and they did the rest in terms of reservations, Eurostar tickets and reduced fares for my OH for Switzerland - all done by email and a swift and very helpful and pleasant service. You send off the form with your requirements and they will come back with a quote (which you can then ask for a requote if your plans change before you book)
The only fly in the ointment is that now the service from Paris to Turin (and back) does not accept FIP coupons and you have to buy a discount fare. I'm not sure if this also applies to France-Spain journeys as well, but the DB people will advise.
