Today (03/04/2014) is the 7th anniversary of the current rail speed record.

The record was smashed by the team efforts from Alstom, RFF and SNCF taking the speed record to 574.8km/h travelling over Tata Steel (then called Corus) rails.
The linked video shows the impressive record which still stands to this day - 7 years later a fitting tribute to their efforts
