Rail & Sail (Euston-Holyhead-Dublin)

As a bit of back-story, I'm going to be flying to Washington DC next year, Dublin-Heathrow-Washington and the reverse on the return and thanks to British Airways' recent "ex-Dublin" sale I'll be saving over £2,000 on the normal fare from Heathrow to Washington.

I would like to get to Dublin using the ferry from Holyhead as it's something I've not done before and I'm going to be on a plane long enough that week, so I was looking at Rail&Sail fares, most reasonable. and it means I can connect off the sleeper.

My question is, is it possible to buy a 1st Class Rail & Sail fare? All I seem to be able to pull up is standard. I have no aversion to standard class but I do have a lot of RTVs which need using!

There are no 1st class R&S fares unfortunately. Remember that 1st class would only be available on the handful of Virgin trains and ATW's Premier service.

You mention connecting off the sleeper, I'm assuming at Euston? Have you considered using the Highland and changing at Crewe for the 08.20 arrival at Holyhead? This would connect into a 12.10 arrival in Dublin. Even if your flight is later the only reason I suggest it is it would save you time by eliminating Crewe - Euston - Crewe.

Thanks for confirming that. Yes it would be the Inverness sleeper at Euston, I will be staying overnight in Dublin so I am not rushed in that sense. Thank you for the suggestion re. Crewe.

You can get a Rail & Sail ticket from Inverness to Dublin for no more than £48, depending which ferry option you go for (the Swift ferry is £5 more than a conventional ferry).

This would be valid on the sleeper, changing at Crewe although you would need to pay the berth fee.

A competent booking office would be able to sort it out for you.
