Rail operator open days

Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any open days that train operators do, that are in the UK and available to the general public. An example that I already know is the Direct Rail Services open day, but if anyone could name any more, that would be great.

Not exactly a rail operator but Siemens have done open days at their depots across the country. Though they haven't happened since Covid.

Other than these DRS is the only regular open day, roughly every two years. Other operators do very occasional open days, for example GWR have done Old Oak, St Phillips Marsh and Penzance, but these are usually one offs. The days of several events a year are seemingly long gone, probably because of a greater emphasis on health and safety plus the focus on the ‘bottom line’

I would love GBRF to do one at Tonbridge yard, and the Redhill line would be great for enthusiast shuttles.

I recall attending an open day at Inverness depot in the mid 80s. When I cast my mind back and think about how "free range" the public were allowed to be, I shudder slightly; these days people would (quite rightly) be horrified at the apparent lack of regard for health and safety!

It's understandable why operators are reluctant to stage such events these days.

I think cramped workshops, and open scraplines, next to mainlines with just a plastic tape are long gone.

But open uncramped sites, with hard standings etc arent that dangerous, as long as the unsafe areas have proper fencing and staffing.

The biggest risk ive seen is portaloos loos running out of chemicals to kill the smell.
