Hi, am searching for nice-looking railway maps from round the world for a project I'm working on so thought it would be a good idea to ask you forummers and also a good excuse to post some pretty piccies of rail maps from the world. I'll get the ball rolling but please add your own !

* Beautiful 3D-esque relief map of Scotland produced byb the LNER/LMS around 1934

* Detailed map of the NYCRR from around 1876 proudly announcing its 4 track route

* Uganda Railways poster of early 1920s

* The Australian system in 1907 before the sides of the country were connected

* How the Canadian west was opened up by the railroad

state rail in NSW, Australia, did a 3D style map like the LNER map, of Sydney in the late 80s. Of course I have it at my place in Sydney It looks west, so the ocean in the foreground & mountains & hills which surround Sydney in the distance.

Not strictly online, but a very nice atlas that has recently been released for the UK is by Track maps. Contains the whole country, and shows basic track layouts (excluding sidings) in a geographical context and other detail. Here's a sample of the Preston area.

Love that book Metroland, though the 1960's Ian Allan 'Pre Grouping' Atlas is even more juicy as you can see all the lines before the Beeching axe too! (http://www.amazon.co.uk/British-Rail-Pre-grouping-Atlas-Gazetteer/dp/0711003203) - also in the same vein (but much more detailed) is Joe Brown's incredibly well researched and practical 'London Rail Atlas' (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0711033978).

Meantime a few more nice old maps - has no-one else on this wonderful forum got any map scans???

Two nice examples of how the Southern used to push its links to Europe:

What Spain has/planned by 1864

The South West of Russia down to Odessa/Black Sea in 1899

What was existent and planned in Ireland by 1906 in the Viceregal Commission report

France by 1914

Ah yes, the London Rail atlas, shows the old lines as well, very good. Of course what I'm really waiting for is a 1920s atlas showing the rail network at its peak with all the track layouts, sidings and signalboxes. I live in hope!

Some of the Swiss Tourist Maps are quite good, showing the area in 3D with the Local Transport Network (Both Heavy and Mountain Rail, Cable Cars, Ski lifts etc)

*I think this is a Junfraubahnen map, as their railways are highlighted in Red, normally all are in black*
