Aha, excellent. I’ve also got a 1994 book and I don’t think there were any sandite fitted locos listed in there.

Saltley train drivers used to "sandite" the route between Standish Junction and Kemble with a class 37 ex Bescot ,returning from Kemble to Bescot via Bromsgrove and New Street,we always tried to save some "sandite" to use on the Lickey Bank on returning from Kemble.

I’m hoping you might be able to explain how the sandite was laid onto the rail surface? Would it be a separate piping system to the normal sanding system?

If I re call the "Sandite Hopper" was located in the ex boiler compartment and new pipe work led from the "hopper" and was fed into the original sanding pipework.

Yes, I recall looking in the innards of a sandite 37 in Cornwall back in the late 1990's and I am pretty sure that you are correct.

Thanks for filling the gaps in guys. One question: How would the hoppers in the locos be filled? They must have carried a lot of the mixture to be effective.
