Absolutely not. Reddit is the best of the big social media sites in that regard - r/railroading is a fairly active subreddit for US rail workers, who are currently in an extremely millitant mood.

Agh - well spotted. Now sorted out. Can't find any other mistakes, but if anyone sees anything they should shout.
Not put social media links in - there are such a lot of them, and many are liable to change/go extinct/be replaced much more rapidly than dedicated forums. If anyone disagrees strongly and has a list of the main groups then I can bung them up with the others.

Ah, I should also mention that Portugal Ferroviário is mostly hidden from visitors.
To view the full forum, one must register an account and make their first thread to present themselves to the community.
Afterwards, all forums and subforums are unlocked.
Almost all other Portuguese forums are dead. Comboios.org and Terminal Intermodal both being victims of the 2010's Facebook exodus.
The only one still online is Transportes XXI, which is a generalist transit forum, although founded by rail enthusiasts.
It requires registration to enter the sub-forums.

As I now see this again after some time 2 points:
1.would it be possible to make this a kind of sticky somewhere? That would make it more visible and easier to check.
2.Just got the idea: several railways themselves also run forums, could this perhaps also get its own post, or perhaps separate section in the overview on top?
Got to this as DB-community.bahn- died some monthes ago, but for Nederland there is community.ns.nl , quite lively, mostly of course questions from people unused to it or not able to find the info in the general site, but often also more as longer discussions from very well used long-time train users and their views.
Currently again in Thailand myself, there used to be even a part of general forum dedicated to trains and transit (also for Laos), but it was cut off some years ago and the most frequent contributors have moved to skyscrapercity.

I agree it's a useful thread however this site relies on advertising revenue and sending people to other competing sites is not in its own best interest

Postvagnen has now been closed without any information on why or how.

Has it been actually closed? Or just a temporary issue with the website? When i go to the site it fails to load so it could be a website issue that will be resolved soon? It may be technical issues?
It's not just a temporary technical issue. There is a short statement on www.sjk.se that Postvagnen is closed at the moment and that more information will come.

As such quite true, but most of the ads in foreign forums -if they even have them, are directed to local advertisers that would not even want to consider sending stuff to the British isles?! And railways have since decennia of use always been in a kind of coöperative working together, this might very well also apply to these forums?!
Or-tongue in cheek-perhaps the train travel section/subforum on tripadvisor.com? M. Smith from seat61 is quite active there in giving answers. But then perhaps these always all the same questions of rail-analfabets are not what one has in mind here. I read them every week or so to stay on the current what things people tend to worry about. IN about >50% of cases this seems to be how high fares are and thinking that trains are ´full´-where as bookings have not even opened, as way too early.
I guess the reason for closing postvagnen is probably best asked on DSO=drehscheibe-online, perhaps already posted there. Infinite source of knowledge in general. As a very broad general rule it seems that moving from paid webspace to free, like failbook&the like are most common reasons-plus more protected/usknowsus users-circle then possible.

While a good source of info and debate, the forum was open to everyone, not just paid-up members of Svenska Järnvägsklubben who hosted, maintained and moderated it. It's not improbable that it will return as a members-only forum. Membership costs 495SEK (about £39) a year

Thanks JonasB. I've just crossed out the link for the moment in view of debate about whether it may return as members only forum. Will try to remember to return and restore or remove it completely in a few months(!)
It's certainly not impossible. There is now a more detailed explanation at www.sjk.se and it seems like there has been some internal conflict behind the scenes.
It has now returned as a members only forum, although non-members can read it.

Does anyone know if New Zealand has a railway forum for their railways? I can not seem to find one but surely they must have one?
The infamous Japanese message board 5ch has several train-related boards:

The URL has also changed to https://www.postvagnen.com/. As posting in Postvagnen is for SJK members only now, the number of active users is a lot lower. So the forum is not as useful as before.
