Rail disruption in France?

I understand Northern France has had one or two flooding issues like we have seen closer to home - cause the same.

Next Sunday I am booked to travel from Sheffield to Nice. Has anyone heard of anything that could cause me disruption south of Paris? Things seem pretty OK that far, providing we have hopefully seen the worst.

Have a look at www.infolignes.com, which is the official SNCF site for train running information.

There is no weather related disruption that I can see, but there are engineering works which have caused some trains to be cancelled.

Go to http://www.infolignes.com/previsions.php?zoneId=3 and then click on "cliquez sue ce lien" to find out if your train is affected.

Personally, my gut feeling is that you'll be fine. The South has got off pretty lightly (minus some localised flooding) - it was in Brittany where trains were stopped and people put up in community centres or on the train for the night one night this week.

As duncanp has said, just type your train number into Infolignes - you'll be able to see how it is running on any given day. If it runs fine this week, then it should do on the weekend too. (minus any engineering works, of course)

Next weekend will probably be very busy in the other direction, towards Paris. As of tomorrow, it is half term in parts of France, and many skiers were at Gare de Lyon yesterday for their trip south.

In short, I don't forsee any major issues.

I've heard nothing untoward regarding most of France.

IN any case any journey in France can go belly up at short notice for a variety of reasons, so even if nothing goes wrong for months, that doesn't mean no incidents will take place, but that is true of any public travel option.

Would you believe a landslip at Unstone, near Chesterfield has just appeared as the "spanner in the works."?

Last time I was booked to use Eurostar. The Channel Tunnel caught fire a week before. It was only a day return from Ebbsfleet to Paris and so I was happy to accept a refund and try again at a later date.

A few weeks ago. There was that boulder incident that killed two on the mountain railway that runs out of Nice. That was to have been one of my day trips while in Nice.

After the previous Chunnel incident I mentioned to people I feared my curse of the tunnel would strike again. Then it kind of manifested itself in a different way making me feel responsible for killing two people. Now the Unstone incident. OMG!

Trains are running Nice - Plan du Var. Still worth the jaunt IMO. Sometimes going too far on the train on the CP line can mean you spend so much time on the train you don't appreciate the detail of the railway.

Have also now decided to spend Saturday night in Milton Keynes. Thus wasting the Sheffield to London portion of the ticket. My choice. As also was to degrade myself a little for once by travelling to MK on a NX COACH!
