Question: can Rail Class 442 be pulled by Diesel loco and used on non electrified lines. Which class loco would fit?

Oh, no. Not another 442 thread!!!

XD

To answer your question, in theory any locomotive with ETH fitted can haul and power a 442. Any locomotive or unit fitted with bagpipes (the SR standard 27 way multiple working) can work with a 442 in multi or push pull mode but a loco needs the ETH connected if hauling off the juice. In practice the ETH proved troubleaome and was rarely used

The ideal locos therefore were 33/1 and 73

I'm sure I've seen it said that the multiple working (with a 33/1 or 73) has never actually been used?
