Rail Assessors

Working for a company looking for Rail Assessors for full time positions covering Train Driving and Onboard/ Station staff. We are delivering apprenticeships in the Rail Industry and are UK wide. Must have experience in driving or Onboard/ Station roles and for the drivers side a ETDL and current competency is not essential. May be an opportunity for someone on here or if you know someone suitable. Posted on Total Jobs. If you need more info I’ll answer posts

You won't get many current drivers jumping ship with the wages and I presume no perks like travel or pensions etc.
Might be good for someone retired who wants to do a bit extra maybe.

Not sure anyone who’s retired would be interested unfortunately ... they will probably not need the extra money and will value their free time too much! Agreed though, with driver salaries upward of £50k it will probably be a struggle to fill the role with experienced drivers.

Going to be honest, sounds really interesting. Sort of job I would love to do. But as other have said, salaries are not that great. I have all the requirements, but would be a pay cut, not just for me but I imagine for many railway employees.

Yes I agree with some of the posts. It’s more suited to someone who wants to get away from shift work / weekend working. Mainly working from home unless near one of the offices Stirling / Manchester/ London. Could also suit someone who may have a struggle with fitness for their medical.

Those sorts of people become Driver Managers on £20k+ more than the top end offer.

Pay peanuts get monkeys. Or in this case, pay that, get no drivers

If the original poster desperately needs drivers for those roles, would it not be better to employ a few on a part time basis and work a teaching schedule around all their rest days ?

I'm sure there are drivers out there (myself included) who'd be happy to do something slightly different on a rest day (especially if there is no guaranteed rest day work).

A lot of negativity from people. There are many people that wouldn’t touch a DM job even for £40k extra never mind £20k.
No payed over time, lots of hours, being on call, always at odds with drivers.
The Job the OP has posted would suit quite a few people looking to get away from the shifts and the pressure and especially in our current situation with Covid the working from home could really appeal to some.
It’s not all about the extra cash, the same way I wouldn’t just want to sell off my T’s and C’s for a few grand more.
Job wouldn’t be for me but that doesn’t mean it’s not right for everyone

Yes I have actually been there and it was no way near 70k. The On Call include the likes of Xmas day for no extra renumeration, lots of hours, filling in as spare driver at last minute, working longer shifts and more weekends than the drivers roster certainly doesn’t make it attractive to drivers.

For continuity purposes I don’t personally think it would be suitable to employ several people on a part time basis. Shift patterns would make it difficult to manage too and after all, rest days “should” be used to rest and recuperate.
