UK Rail Announcement Generator

Generate station and on-train announcements for the UK rail network using real audio recordings. Covers rolling stock from Avanti, LNER, Thameslink, TfL, Transport for Wales, and West Midlands Trains, plus station systems from Amey/KeTech and ScotRail.

This site is developed and maintained by David Wheatley, a train, plane, and mobile networking enthusiast.

Most of the announcements on this site are recorded in-person, so quality can be quite sketchy. If you have any better recordings of any snippets, please get in touch over on this site's GitHub repository!

Some announcements are collated from various Freedom of Information requests, such as: ScotRail; Class 700; and all TfL systems. The announcements are not licensed under the same MIT license that this website's source code is licensed under. Please ensure you follow the appropriate licensing terms when using these announcements.

The TOCs announcements generator seems spot on, well at least Avanati to my ear.

Had a play with the live announcements, it's not spot on, but it does it the trick. Also announces delay reasons, like trespassers, late running, lack of train crew.

Been playing around and sorry slightly off the topic itself, but it lists “Virgin Trains Armada Service” as an option, what was that?

Similarly it has various permutations of virgin trains “southern Scot” / “Cornish Scot” services etc. were these real things created with a purpose, or some creative licence from the creator?

Being a Text To Speech thing it's only as good as what bozo-brain types into it. I've been told on good authority that it has happily announced "service to Whitlocks End via Whitlocks End"

Whilst its good, there is some flaws with it, like the Bombardier Electrostar announcing it as a "Southern service" at Abbey Wood. Most of the GTR stations are the Class 700 recordings but hopefully it could change if when GTR passes over to DFT, the raw audio files get released.

I've got a copy of the audio files (Southeastern, c2c and more recently West Midlands Trains) and I can accurately recreate the announcements through a sound editor, Audacity to name it.

You are more than welcome to open issues for any announcements you think are inaccurate, which I can take a look at when I have free time.

Specifically, one to pick between TOCs for Electrostars would be a good one.
