Hiya, are rail and sail tickets from London and Reading to Dublin/Belfast via Holyhead valid via Cardiff/Shrewsbury? Alternatively, from stations Brighton/Southampton/Salisbury then Bristol and as above? If not, then are normal tickets to Holyhead? Cheers

Yes, they are still available but they've changed the conditions recently (someone will know more than me), and some staff have difficulty issuing them.

To answer the other question, you could buy normal tickets but these usually are more expensive than the combined train and ferry ticket.

We don't know anywhere that the valid routeing on GB National Rail of a GB - Ireland SailRail ticket is defined. If we believe that National Rail Enquiries is the definitive source of this information, then the permitted routes closely correspond to Permitted Routes between the GB origin station and the port. We have discovered one or two instances where they are not identical.

For Reading - Dublin or Belfast via Holyhead and Cardiff/Shrewsbury, do you mean Cardiff or Shrewsbury or Cardiff and Shrewsbury?

Reading - Holyhead via Birmingham and Shrewsbury is a Permitted Route using map combination BC+MW. Reading - Holyhead via Cardiff is not a Permitted Route.

I'd suggest normal routeing rules would apply, so you wouldn't be able to go from Paddington via Shrewsbury. You could, however, go from Marylebone up to Birmingham and thence to Shrewsbury and on to Holyhead via Wrexham.

Cheers. I did mean Cardiff AND Shrewsbury, but that's got me thinking now, especially the Marylebone idea...
As i said though, what about Brighton, Southampton, Salisbury and Bristol via Cardiff? Aswell, while I think of it, are tickets valid to Dublin and Belfast via Rosslare? And are returns available, or only singles? And anyone know the changed conditions 142094 refers to?

Not the walk up tickets. And even for the advance tickets, you can ask to be sent via a specific station.
