Radio Caroline this weekend on 1368am

I am sure many on this forum will remember with fondness this station, and likewise many will no doubt think it went the way of all the other 'pirate' stations back in the 60's, but in fact it has been broadcasting (legally now) for over 50 years but in recent times mainly as an internet only station.

This weekend however for the second time this year they have teamed up with Manx Radio and using modern technology are broadcasting live from their ship The Ross Revenge (moored on Black Water in Kent) to the Manx Radio studios which is in turn being broadcast on their medium wave band 1368am starting from this Saturday (31st) at 8:30am until later on Sunday evening.

This should be picked up obviously in the Isle of Man, but also across the North West of England.

I listened to their last broadcast via Manx Radio a few months ago and it was the best radio listening I had heard in a long time.

Thank for this tip, I'll give it a go, I have been fascinated by the Pirate Radio Ships.

1966 - lying in my bed listening to Radio Caroline (and Radio London) with my first transistor radio, easy to forget that there was little pop music on the BBC in those days, (and Radio Luxembourg would never play the whole of the record)......and then a mad dash to catch the bus to school as one of my favourites was being played, one never knew when it would be played again and so didn't want to miss it....happy days!

Somewhere in my attic is a mangled tape of the last hour's broadcast of Radio Caroline (North) in 1967 when it was situated just off the Isle of Man. Radio One started the next day. Tom Lodge was the DJ : he died earlier this year.

It was a great weekend of music, and I thought they really captured the feel of the sixties. Good to see a major sponsor like Tiptree Preserves backing the broadcast.

Apparently there is going to be another broadcast at the end of November but no details yet. The main station can still be heard 24 hours a day on the internet from their website using the link above, but more of an album format on the main station, or click the 'Flashback' tab as they have a second broadcast also 24 hours a day playing oldies.
