I just want to pay my respects to George Alagiah, one of broadcasting’s most familiar and reassuring figures, who has passed after an extremely long and courageous fight with cancer.
The man is probably one of the BBC’s most wonderful journalists, and simply refused to leave the News at Six desk right until the end, even though he did have to reduce his presenting days due to his very sick health, and Fiona Bruce (who seems inappropriate as she smiles broadly while announcing tragic news) and the permanently frowning Sophie Raworth taking over Monday and Friday slots.
It’s devastated me that he’s died, and left behind his children as well, but as a young journalist if I can ever be so much as a fraction of what he was in the industry, I’ll be very happy and proud. May he rest in peace.
