3) If you're thinking along the lines of HST powercars, then I believe this is a trick question. The 43XXX number range is actually for coaches and not locos. So I'm saying 33, which is the number of North British "Warship" diesel-hydraulics that were allocated this class number (though they didn't last long enough to actually carry any TOPS numbers).

But then, is the OP that devious...? If we're going to include the Flying Banana then the answer grows to 199 HST powercars (including the two prototypes) plus the 33 "Warships", giving a total of 232.

50011 had Centurion, but 50040 was renamed Centurian when 011 was scrapped, as they apparently still had a Centurian in service, and not a Leviathan

a) APT-E, I will accept any speed between 152mph and 153mph as some places list it differently

a) 232. Although the HST PCs started out as driving cars of the Class 252/3/4 units, they are recognised now as class 43.

For a bonus point, 50007 is widely reported for being renamed "Sir Edward Elgar" and repainted green to coincide with the GWR 150 celebrations, but what anniversary did it actually coincide with?
