Quick question about train driver assessment!

Sorry will close this after my question is answered, basically i have the 2nd part of the train driver assessment tomorrow, unfortunatly I have a bit of family problem so I cant go. Basically I know that we only get two chances to apply for train driver if we fail, and my question is if I tell them I cant come in would that affect one of my chances?

Hi shamz. Not sure of the answer to this one. I think if you have a genuine reason and advise HR a.s.a.p. they may be understanding. However, if there is any way that you can make it (obviously depends on the situation) I'd recommend you do! Of course, if the issue is stressful you may be better not to go rather than waste a chance due to lack of ability to focus. Sorry I can't be of more help...

90% sure it does not count as one of your chances if you drop out now, but its best to phone the Assessment Centre to get it confirmed 100%

thanks for the response, Its a little late now so I wont be able to call them, really ****ed that I cant go after coming this far. The assessment is tomorrow at 9 so i'm gona try and wake up early tomorrow to see what they say

Yeh I believe that to use up one of your two chances you have to actually 'fail' one of the parts of the test. Not turning up is not a failure.

If you've passed some of the parts already then it should show up on the database next time you do the assessment and you shouldn't have to re-do them.

That's what happened with my tests anyway...of course there's always a chance I'm wrong and ringing up HR will confirm it for you.

Even getting to the assessment stage for train driver is very hard. You're missing a real opportunity.

Also better to ring HR as you suggest prior to 9am to explain why you cannot attend and express that you're sorry to let them down last minute rather than have them think you have just not bothered to turn up. More likely to be invited to another assessment centre if you are proactive about it, I suspect.

There is a chance they could arrange another date to go. I once got given 3 days notice that I had to go to an Assessment Centre. I phoned the TOC to say that 3 days is not enough notice to practice. They arranged another date.

Try writing to their HR department with an explanation and ask for another date, give them as much detail on the resons for not going and don't worry the HR department of LO are pretty good as it goes.

Thanks guys, I ended up going, after sorting some stuff out. Their were 6 of us in the class, 2 were sent home before the reaction test. I managed to get up to the structured interview and DAMN was that one long interview, I wanted to run out of that room. I mean I was prepared for the questions I just wasent prepared for the amount of examples I have to give.
