Quick question about ticket purchasing in Munich (MVV tickets)

I haven't been able to figure out a definitive answer to this, so I will throw it open to the forum!

I will be flying into Munich soon, and for reasons that are far too boring to mention I would like to travel into the city by first taking a bus (the 512, specifically) to Erding, then using the S2 S-Bahn.

My question is: is it possible to buy a Day Ticket - in this case, the €14.80 ticket covering zones M to 5 inclusive - on the bus? And if so, are banknotes likely to be accepted or should I take coins?

The only reason for wanting to make my life more difficult by not buying at the airport like everybody else does is - I would like to have an bus-issued Day Ticket/Tagesticket in my ever-expanding collection of German transport tickets

In den MVV-Regionalbuslinien können Sie beim Busfahrer über den Fahrscheindrucker Einzelfahrkarten und Streifen-/Tageskarten, sowie Zeitkarten erwerben. Als Zahlungsmittel werden Geldscheine und Münzen angenommen.

In the MVV regional bus lines, you can purchase single tickets and strip/day tickets as well as season tickets from the bus driver using the ticket printer. Banknotes and coins are accepted as means of payment.

You can download the MVG app and buy it on that, no need to show when boarding the bus, good chyof taking the bus to Erding, although the service is more frequent M-F

Ah, but I'm after the physical ticket for my collection Looks like a decent service: every 20 mins. Last time I was in Munich I went the other way on the 635 bus into Freising, then headed into the city centre after a nice wander round that pleasant place.

A few years ago I was on a bus in rural Bavaria and an old lady boarded and bought a ticket with a €100 note, this was accepted by the driver who gave her at least 4x €20s in change.

In principle yes, should be possible.
BUt I would advise you to buy it from a machine-plenty in de S-bahn station adjacent and maybe even also on the busstands. A dayticket is a dayticket and valid all day in the whole area of MVV (to be expanded from 1/1 coming). Machines also takes notes=bills and do change.
Since this D-monthly for 49€ (yes, I have one) sale on buses has fallen an awful lot, but should be possible.
BTW-aside: in DE=Germany there remains a strong movement to keep cash and use it for payment, I have yet to find a spot where they will not accept cash for the odd customer who still wants it. And for smaller amounts many places still bar or charge extra for using bankcards. Creditcards is even another mostly unwanted phenomenon.

I am fairly sure the only ticket vending machines at the airport s-bahn station are the red DB ones (not the blue MVV ones). If they sell such a ticket I am unsure

As DB are part of the MVV offering, they should (they certainly did, but it’s been about 7 years….)
