Yesterday morning I was caught up in the Wimbledon signal/points failure. I arrived at the station at about 6, then with three trains failing to appear left at about 6.40 to get a taxi instead.
The station in question has two stand-alone Oyster readers at the entrance to each station. I will usually use the same readers to tap in at the beginning of the day and out at the end of the day, either of the readers on the Up platform entrance. Yesterday, I tapped my contactless credit card on the Oyster reader when I got to the station, not realising that the trains were cancelled. When I eventually abandoned my journey, I tapped back out again on the other of the two readers on the Up platform.
I've logged onto the Oyster card website this morning, and have seen that I have been charged for an incomplete journey on both taps! I have sent a message to TfL explaining what happened and don't see any issues with getting them refunded, but I'm wondering what the correct procedure would have been, as obviously tapping back out again was a problem. If the station had an actual barrier, I would have had to tap back out again to leave the platforms (except that there's no staff at that time so the barriers would have been open!), so assumed that the same would apply here.
Thoughts?
