Been overcarried at Conwy as nobody said the front door wouldn’t open. I was told to be in the front two carriages at Chester by the train crew waiting to take it forward, but not informed about the doors.

Now waiting for the 15:10 back to Conwy, but I’m not sure if it’s a request stop. Don’t want to make a fool of myself if it’s going to stop here anyway. Help please!

Edit: someone else just arrived and says it’s a normal stop so that’s okay.

In such situations you can ask the guard if its a request stop or not, no shame in it. Just say you can't remember. I did this with a station i visited in January.

Thank you. I was actually waiting on a deserted platform at the time and didn’t know if I needed to stick my arm out. So many stations on that line seem to be request stops. Anyway the arrival of another passenger confirmed that it’s not one.

I was rather annoyed that there was no announcement on the 4-car 158 I was on originally. I chatted with the guard on my return to Conwy as I didn’t want the same thing to happen again, and apparently on the two car trains all the doors open, but on the fours they only open one door, seemingly between the front two coaches. Lesson learnt there.

Often you don’t get any announcements either at Chester or on the train, until the guard comes round, that you need to be in the front 2 coaches of a four car for stations beyond Llandudno Junction. And the information display at Colwyn Bay on Monday actually showed the rear two as going on, to add more confusion.

I’m a TFW guard who works 158’s (not on the north wales coast though).
Unfortunately the 158’s have no form of selective door opening so when we have a formation that is longer than the Platform we can only use the ‘local’ door (the one we are at) and not release the doors.
If it is really busy then we do have a method where we can walk down the length of the train opening each door individually but is time consuming.

It’s a horrible feeling over carrying a passenger as a conductor.
Sorry this happened to you, at least you will be better armed with knowledge for the future.

Just put your arm out but make it look plausibly like you could be just having a stretch.
