Scotrail telesales have proven themselves less than competent yesterday, so:

1. If I book tickets elsewhere, do I need to give a ticket number or anything in order to make a sleeper reservation? (i.e. do I have to collect the tickets first).
2. Can I book the berths at Reading station or does it have to be direct from Scotrail?
3. If using telesales, can I collect ToD? (it's for Sunday).

Sorry if it's been answered before, I couldn't find a clear and up-to-date answer.

No, yes, and yes, or at least in theory.

I think any station that can offer reservations should theoretically be able to book you a place on a sleeper service, but of course, many stations would likely not have a clue about how to do it. Seeing as Reading's served by the Cornwall sleeper though they'll know what they're doing, so as bb21 says you should have no problem.

A few years ago, on an ALR, I went to Euston to get some sleeper reservations (you would think they would know what they're doing there). The clerk had no idea and happily issued me with berth reservations at no charge :D

Was never queried on the sleeper, either.
