Questions regarding declassified 1st class compartments

The reason I ask this is that today, possibly caused by stock being in the wrong place due to the problems at Ilford yesterday. A unit turned up with two doors either side of the vestibule for 1st class in London Midland not Greater Anglia style. I understood that Greater Anglia has one compartment and 16 seats in each unit. The remainder has had the 2nd door and all reference to 1st class removed. This was done to reflect a reduced number of 1st class season ticket holders.

Similar to the very early trains that do not have 1st class advertised in the timetable as they used to be operated by class 315's can a standard class passenger sit in the extra compartment?

Not if it's marked as a 1st class compartment (but they may if this branding has been removed).

If the service is marked in the timetable as having 1st class then its 1st class (even if 7 of the 8 coaches are 1st class they are all 1st class), if it is marked in the timetable as Standard class only then 1st is automatically declassified, or at least should be!

If a train is advertised as not conveying 1st class accommodation, then all available seats are Standard class.

If one of the 1st class compartments had all traces of 1st class signage removed, while the other compartment remains clearly identifiable as 1st class, it's clear to me that one of the compartments has been 'declassified' and it is therefore considered to be Standard class accommodation.

Thameslink muddied the waters a bit yesterday.
The 18.06 Blackfriars to Bedford is timetabled as carrying First Class but the departure boards showed it as "Standard Class Only". When it arrived it was two 319/4s; there were "First Class" compartments with "1st" stickers and antimacassars BUT none of the warning notices that you normally see.
I doubt there is a definitive answer to the "was this First or not?" question but it shows that there is always the potential for complicated things to become more so.

That service may have been declassified as I believe there was some disruption.

Peak time Thameslink sutton/sevenoaks services sometimes have first class accommodation but not advertised in timetable as such. I regularly get on at Farringdon at 1817 going to Peckham which often has this. It does get very busy between Blackfriars and Peckham but have not heard anything announcement of declassification. Many people assume, which is probably the right thing to do. Not as if anyone with a first class ticket could call foul.
