Hi there!
I've recently began a project on the London Underground for the University of the West of England, concentrating how to make it more enjoyable.
I just wanted to get some more opinions other than my own.

If anyone on here has a free moment, or a spare five minutes to fill in these questions I will be very grateful.

Questions:

1. How long have you used the London Underground for? Has the service improved or declined over time?

2. What are your views of the service London Underground currently provides.

3. How long does your tube journey take you everyday?

4. Are there things you do on the journey that you do everyday?
(For example; read the paper, listen to music...ect)

5. Do you consider your journey on the tube to be time wasted or timed gained on your day?

6. Is there anything in specific that would make your daily commute better?

7. Do you prefer to be left alone on the tube or would you rather talk to people?

8. If there was technology to allow you to interact with other passengers on the tube would you use it? If not, why?

9. Do you notice adverts on the tube? If so, how much attention do you give them?

10. In your opinion, could the journey to and from work be more enjoyable? How?

11. What makes you happy on a daily basis?

Thank you very much for all your time, and hopefully hear from you soon! Thank you,

Tuffrose

I've used it on and off since the mid nineties, regularly since 2001. I think the service has improved in this time.

2. What are your views of the service London Underground currently provides.

I think it's usually very good. This may be coloured by having grown up in a village with two buses an hour.

3. How long does your tube journey take you everyday?

I assume you mean "every day". My use of the tube varies wildly from day to day. This week I've only made 3 journeys, some days I make 6 or 7.

4. Are there things you do on the journey that you do everyday?
(For example; read the paper, listen to music...ect)

Again I'm assuming you mean "every day".
I usually read the freebie paper or a book. I sometimes listen to music.

5. Do you consider your journey on the tube to be time wasted or timed gained on your day?

It's just part of the day - it's quicker than walking...

6. Is there anything in specific that would make your daily commute better?

Not with regard to the tube that I can think of and is affordable.

7. Do you prefer to be left alone on the tube or would you rather talk to people?

I'll rarely start a conversation but if someon'es being friendly I'll be one of the few to respond.

8. If there was technology to allow you to interact with other passengers on the tube would you use it? If not, why?

Why would I need technology? Not sure I really understand this question.

9. Do you notice adverts on the tube? If so, how much attention do you give them?

I notice them, read them and then generally forget them.

10. In your opinion, could the journey to and from work be more enjoyable? How?

More frequent services would always be good (mostly for the extra space rather than saving a few extra seconds - but I appreciate LU's running close to the maximum as it is on most lines.

11. What makes you happy on a daily basis?

My wife.

Thank you very much for all your time, and hopefully hear from you soon! Thank you,

Tuffrose

Why dont you make a survey site, it will make the collection and analysis of responses much easier :)

Seconded, surveymonkey is a popular one. Besides it gives better anonymity for users and make your results more in line with data protection (standard for online surveys is anonymised responses and no personal data needed.)

You should also make it clear who you want in your sample - do you want a general opinion of the country? Of Londoners? Of Rail enthusiasts? Of commuters? Of Leisure users? Or do you want a stratified sample from all of the above?

Ok will do.
Thank you for the suggestions. Will get onto that now.

I want the general opinion of the country really. Anyone who uses the rain on a regular basis. Sorry I didn't make that clear when I posted the question. I will take it to a survey site.

Thank you everyone for your time! It's very appreciated!

Feel free to post the link here when it's made.

I do not travel every day so I am not sure if I am eligible to answer or not, some of the questions would not be answerable as a result.

Is this for a GCSE project?

A question such as " 5. Do you consider your journey on the tube to be time wasted or timed gained on your day?" would be answered by me as "neither". For example if I take a journey that takes 15 mins by tube, it is not correct that all of that time can be wasted or gained. If the alternative is 10 minutes, then some of that time is wasted time. If the alternative is 20 minutes, then some of that time is gained time. But what if you do several journeys, which journey does the question apply to?

Thank you all for such a quick response.
I have taken your advice and created an online survey.
This was a great idea and I'm sorry I hadn't thought of it sooner.
(Maybe wasting some of your time, which I'm very sorry for.)

If you still wish to take part the link is

Thank you all so much for your time!

Thanks again,

Tuffrose.

Its for a degree project at university. I'm trying to make a journey more enjoyable for people, and finding the angle inwhich people would want to the tube to improve.
It's initial research, but really helpful in creating something that people would want, and that would hopefully make it more enjoyable!

And it's mainly up to you. It's just in reference to what you do on the train, do you like being on the train gives you extra time to do things, ie. work, or does is feel more wasted because you don't feel like you can do anything other than stand there and stare at people. It's more about your personal attitude to your journey. I do get your point though, and I'm sorry that the questions aren't as clear as I had hoped. You can just put neither if you feel that the question isn't applicable to you personally.

Thank you for taking an interest!

Does surveymonkey let you make changes subsequently? Yu may want to change "everyday" to "every day" and "ect" to "etc" - It might make it look a little more professional.

Not wasting time - it's always good to get feedback and others' perspectives, this is how things improve!
