Question regarding SWR

Good afternoon everyone, I have a friend who has been offered a job with SWR as a trainee driver and in the contract it asks for an up to date cv with any qualifications ie gcse or a levels.
So the question is why would they ask for this now? He didn't do that great in his exams at school so he is worrying if his grades will affect him?

I too am expecting a job offer from SWR soon, glad my CV is up to date!
I can only guess that maybe First/MTR do this to know more about the people they are employing, a lot of my experience and skills have nothing to do with the Rail industry though.

Congratulations to you dan and thank you for the input I will pass this on, he also mentioned that practice functional skills tests will be done in maths, English and communications so maybe it's all linked with that somehow. He is also like you and has nothing to do with the rail industry. Just couldn't understand why they wouldn't ask about gcse grades on the initial application.

Thanks ray, so do you actually know what they would use the grades for? It won't matter that he didn't do well in his gcse's?

I assume if he can prove that he has a level one in English and Maths he may not have to sit the functional skills paper.

Oh ok I will ask what his exact results are. Do you know what grades a level 1 are equivalent to? I would imagine everyone would have to still sit them regardless just so they can get an idea who knows what.

A question to all current SWR/SWT drivers.. How soon after your driver training starts are you able to book some time away from a holiday?

I'm new to the industry and will be starting my mainline driver course in a few months, just wanted know when's the soonest I'd be able to get time off for a family holiday?

You will get a schedule for your first year which will have leave allocated for certain weeks at the same time as everyone on your course. after your first year and when you qualify is when you can book annual leave you want/mutual exchange with colleagues.

3 months after you start when you have completed your final rules exam expect 2 weeks booked leave written into your course.

After that you return to learn to drive then out with a DI for a few weeks then back into learning traction which is applicable to your depot.

Once you passed your traction assessments you are back out with a DI gaining your hours for your final assessment. You can take some time off here when you want to, however many keep it and then take a couple of weeks off as a reward for passing.
