Question Regarding Pension/Benefits on Railway

Good Morning All,

Just a bit of a random question, and not sure if people know, but as a driver your on railway pension and all the benefits that come with that, do all roles in railway have this, for instance non driver roles, (regional managers, ticket office, depots, call centre staff etc) I know they all get staff travel and priv cards etc, but do they have a different part of the railway pension or is it all the same?

Generally speaking, all grades of staff at the company will be in the same section of the pension scheme. There may be some differences in cases where companies are no longer enrolling people into RPS, but I'm unfamiliar with those places.

Normally all roles are on the same scheme. What might be different is that - at some TOCs - new starters might not be enrolled onto the "full benefits" scheme straight away and you have to transfer over after X years service (or not be able to at all).

Generally all directly employed grades in the same scheme section , obviously contribution rates and benefits at the end will be different as both are based on your pensionable pay among other things .

You might find slight variations for new starters . And protected members who were members of the British Rail pension scheme .
