Question on Android

I recently got 'down and with it' (as I think the saying goes ) and got myself a smartphone.

Occasionally when booting it up, one of the alerts I get is it wants to perform a system update. When I tap it, it says it can't do it as I haven't granted permission (I think?) and I can change it in Settings > Apps (or Apps > Settings?), but when I go there there's nothing I can do to fix it, no settings to change, no System Update App or anything related to it, as far as I can see. I think I've tried every available menu.

Any tech savvy Android users help me out please?

I am happy finding my way round a Windows PC quite ably, but these phones are a different kettle of fish!

Go to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates - any pending updates should be shown there.

Would it be possible for you to say which phone it is , if possible , because as im sure youll know , all androids are skinned differently by different companies , so they will look different ( with the exception of a few ) , to stock android , which is on the pixels and the nexus series

It's a ZTE Blade v7, Android 6.0.

I went to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates (System Updates doesn't exist).

Trying that, I get a message which pops up for about a quarter of a second then goes, most frustratingly. Several attempts later, reading a word at a time, it says something about the phone needing to be on charge during updates. I put it on charge to see if it made a difference but it didn't. I then got the usual message: Permissions denied. You can change them in Settings > Apps.

So, I'm no further in solving this one.

Any more suggestions gladly received

Android is on build 6.01 so it seems your phone is up to date

all androids are skinned differently by different companies , so they will look different ( with the exception of a few ) , to stock android

And also dependent on how old the phone is, may be running a different version of Android where the menus were structured differently

All system messages on an Android phone should only be cancellable (if that's a word) by a tap on the screen to confirm, so I can't figure what that message may be

They do, its usually in the form of a link to a website unfortunately

Your menu build should say About Device, not About Phone.
So, go to Settings> About Device> Download Updates Manually, the phone will then check for updates, you should then get a message asking you if you want to install now, or later. I would also recommend you're connected to your wifi when you do install, as it will consume a vast amount of your data allowance if you do it via mobile data

Settings> Lock Screen & Security> Unknown Sources

You will get a message that it may be dangerous to install apps from unknown sources blah blah blah (I always get this when Mobdro updates). As long as you turn it back off when you install the app you need to update.

Really?Christmas it wasn't that long ago both my Samsung A5 and Sony xanthine both updated to 6. And no further updates are available

Have you signed into Google Play? You may need to force an update to the Google apps from there.

I remember having the same issue on my Samsung phone and not sure if it was actually fixed, just didn't turn the phone off so didn't see the message.

No, it says About Phone, and there's no Download Updates Manually option.

OK I have done this. No change when tapping the update option. I will wait for the boot up message (not always there on boot up, and sometimes pops up when already on). But I don't hold out much hope.

I'm not sure Google Play is relevant. My apps update fine, these are system update messages I'm getting.

So, no further, sadly. Maybe I better take it to the shop and see what they think.

You'd be surprised. Google Play services do a lot more than whats on the tin.

Version 7 has only been released on certain phones. I have got 7.0 on my Samsung S7

Device manufacturers sometimes end support earlier than stock which is on 7.1.1. I have a nexus 6p which is still getting updates every month.

Same here, installed last nighjt, liking it immensely so far, huge improvement on 6 for me, clearer fonts etc
